I set myself the challenge of painting  older women to express the beauty and wisdom which is so often overlooked in an increasingly 'youth culture'.

Pre patriarchy, when women had high status and God was also recognised as Goddess, older women were revered for their experience and wisdom and were called Crones - now an insult. The Crone Goddess or dark mother is the last aspect of the Triple Goddess, together with the Mother and the Maiden she represents part of the circle of life. Hronos is the Greek word for time, so I surmise that this is the origin of Crone. Post the patriarchal takeover, the Crone was replaced by the male titan Kronos, and older women became devalued. As I have become older, I see the hidden treasures in older women, who should be once more brought to light, honoured and reinstated as a vital contribution to the world.
